What do you think about the book so far?
Are there any parts of the story you would have written differently if you were the author of The Skin I'm In? If yes, what would you change? If no, why would you leave things the same?
Which character from your book do you relate to the most? Why?
Additional thoughts…
1. well it's good book for me and alot of was so mean to here like me in 5th grade they making fun of me because i can't speak english and maleeka making fun of her because she's black and poor only 1 or 2 people like her.....
ReplyDeletei thinkm yours was a good because i use to get laugh at to so i think that was a good think that you did and you made a connection to your life and i really think that your passage was good :)
DeleteWell don't wroog about what people say because people will alway's talk about you unit you die that life but you can't let then get to you beacuse nova you are funny kinde and sweet .
Deleteyes i know right people would talk about you or your family till you died they would never live you alone well sometimes they live you alone because they have a new one play with and they think that they are cute outside but for inside they are not.......
DeleteI think that the book is really good and it gives me a life lesoon because people use to make frown of me.When char was being mean to maleeka and when they were smoking because smoking is bad for you and char is so selfish about how maleeka is.I think the chartater that most reflect to me is maleeka because she always get's bullied and i feel her pain because nobody has to get bullied like that and it is not right
ReplyDeleteyeah no one should get bullied thats mean and wrong no one should have to go through all the pain of getting bullied
DeleteAuroraK. I think you are a very kind person and you are a very curtious person.
Delete1.I really enjoy the book because it's nice and relaxing. The book is also a little funny. The book is also based on a true story so that really happened so i also like that part.
ReplyDelete2.Yes, I would change the things that she would say like "I wont do no nothing" I would say some thing like " I wont do any thing" but other than that the book is great the way it is.
3.I think I would relate to Maleeka because I have friends that act like char and the twins (without them smoking and every thing) because some of my friends they are my friends but some times they can be like I will do this if you do that. also because Maleeka has a personality kinda like mine sweet, shy, honest, and respectful.
I agree with you to because the book is really relaxing and it makes you want to read it all the time I thinkm the same way because maleeka is the nice one
Deleteyeah I know Maleeka is DEFINITLY not like Char or the twins they are all rude to her and I think she should stand up to them she doesnt need to be friends with them especially because they are the ones always getting Maleeka in trouble.
DeleteShauna C. If you were Maleeka how would you stand up to Char?
DeleteShaunaC. If I were Meeleka I would be trying to say stop please yuo are hurting my feelings.
Delete1. I think the book is very interesting and fasinating!I think this because the book is teaching the readers to believe in thier self and not to let other people bring them down.
ReplyDelete2.I would leave things the same because the book is great the way it is and the conflicts help Maleeka find who she really is and helps her believe in herself.
3.I relate to Maleeka the most because I understand where she's coming from and why its hard for her to believe in herself.
Me to i think that the book gave me some life lesson when miss.sanders said see what is inside of you that work out for me
DeleteDestiney .C you have great ideas and id love to hear more.
DeleteI know I loved the part when her dad said "You got to see yourself with your own eyes.Thats the only way you gonna know who you really are"
Deletejust like when they were making fun of mrs.Saunders face she didnt mind and she says inspiring stuff about how you should look at your self the way you want to look at your self not like some people would look at you
Delete1. I think that so far this book is a great story that tells about a real life problem. Also I like all of the characters because each one of them shows different characteristics of real life people.
ReplyDelete2. I would not change anything because the story is interesting and tells a great life lesson that should be shared with many people.
3. I relate to Maleeka because she is teased about how she looks by jhon jhon, charlese, the twins, and many others. This relates to me because i have always been teased about my looks by my peers.
EXTRA THOUGHTS- Anyone who has ever been teased like Maleeka should stand up for thierself like Maleeka has started to.
definitly i mean really who wouldtease some one about their looks you should judge some one by their personality
Deletei like what you said i don't like that maleeka would smook too. and char should do her owm homework...
ReplyDeleteI think there is 1 thing that made me happy is when jerimey said i'm saying if you love me,you will take good care of you.you won't try to do me in because that's gonna cause problems for you.
ReplyDeleteYea, that made me happy also... :)
DeleteSomething that made me kind of happy is when, Maleeka got her hair cut and she felt that she was very beautiful!
Thank you Shauna .C
ReplyDelete3. I relate caleb because when he said that maleeka is beautiful I think that is so sweet and I think that jhon-jhon like maleeka and I don't know why she like maleeka but I'm sure she like her...... When the three boy say that maleeka is beautiful and they like to get one kiss but maleeka doesn't like to kiss them....... Well somebody did that to my sister so she run and run till she get home then, she cry and cry...... I think that is so sad .....
ReplyDeleteI Would not change anythink beacuse the author has a good idea and you can picture the story with the word's she pick . I'm like sweet's she care about her friend's and family and she like to put people up not down forexample she help maleeka get a hair cut and told her it cute ion her and she a good friend better than char she don't make her do bad think's like char make maleeka do . I think the book is good and you can learn not to let what people think about you wrooy you forexample, people alway tell maleeka she ugly and she black and dumb but caleb think she is cute smart and it like example for middle schol and how people are mean to each other's.
ReplyDeleteSweets is very nice and definently is a better "friend" than Char because Sweets doesn't make fun of her.
Delete1. I think that the book is very interesting. I think that the people in the book are very real. I can imagine the things in the book, in my head. I love that the author made everything seem so real!
ReplyDelete2. I say no. I say no because, the author has chosen their words very good. And I think that the author has a good imagination. For example, she says/writes things so good that you can imagine then in your head. And the story is very realistic, like no made up animals or fake things.
3. I can mostly relate to, Char. I think I can relate to her most, because, she has an older sister like I do. Also, her sister bosses her around, like mine does at home, like when she told her to get downstairs and serve drinks and foods. But, my sister isn't as mean as Char's sister. My sister isn't as old as Char's, but she is older than me. Also, Char seems like a cool perosn. And I'm a cool person. It's just that she's really mean to other people. And she is bossy like her sister. But, I'm not as bossy as my sister, and I don't get it from her.
wait you like char mean bad dumb no i think you liek sweet's smart nice. lol
Delete1. Rally so far i think it is a good book cause it talks about feelings and drama but sometimes it makes me happy when she got her new haircut and cloths but it made me sad when she was getting beat up and hurt by the two boys.
Delete2. I wouldn't change it at all cause it sometimes make me feel wierd, upset or happy.
3. I would eaither say maleeka or char cause char sister is mean like her and maleeka is always get herself hurt and getting into trouble
No. Not the weird, bad parts, the sister parts. But yeah I guess I kind of act like her.
Delete1. Honestly I think this book is a good book because it makes me laugh sometimes and it even makes me go boohoo.
ReplyDelete2. No personaly I would not change anything because it makes me laugh out loud . It even makes me wanna cry because its sad.
3. Personaly I relate to Meeleka because she gets in to fights.
1. I like this book a lot so far because it uses vivid details. Like, i love how much detail Maleeka uses when writing her slave diary entries as Akeelma. My favorite diary so far is the one about Akeelma crying at the sight and feel of the sun, and when she discovers that Kinjari is alive! :)
ReplyDelete2. If I was the author, I would change the part where those boys start trying to kiss Maleeka and...you know the rest. I would change this part because I dont think that kind of stuff is "appropriate" for "kids our age", per say. I would have said that boys started beating Maleeka up for something. That's kind of sad, but it's better than what was actually in the book.
3. The character I can relate the most to is Miss Saunders because I have a personality of hers....to some point, not really. Well, the parts of her that are kind of like me at times is her being really fun and cooperative at times just to prepare people for things (in Miss Saunders case, telling funny stories then giving the kids a test), and then she can be serious about things and not in the mood for joking around too much. For example, sometimes I would be playing around and joking and having a lot of fun, and then something happens and I have to get a little more serious about things. not a lot of people can be serious once they have already started having fun and being loose.
I like the details too! The author makes the book come to life! And I like the part where Akeelma finds out Kinjari is alive. It's like a romantic, lesson teaching, humors book all in one. I really like this book. And yeah, they could have tooken out the part with the boys. But I think the author wanted the people to know what really happens in real life.
Deleteits not really that romantic
Delete+ kinjari is a girl...
kinjari is a girl right?
DeleteNi Kinjari is not a girl...^^^ on pages 28-29 I believe, it says a bunch if times he did this or he looked like this. Specifically.
Delete1. what i think about the book so far is that it tells that other people have feelings and that every one should be treated the way you would wanted to be treated. Also because it tells us to always stick up for yourslef and no matter what people tell you to do or what to say never listen.
ReplyDelete2. No there are no parts in the story i would half to change in the story if i was the author because so far he story is good the way it is and that the story is on the same good topic of maleeka by getting teased on and by her sticking up for her self for the first time.
3. Wich character from the book that i realate to is maleeka because she is the one who is in the whole situation and that she is the one who is making a whole diffrence for herself.
I agree with what you said in your first answer. Everybody does have feelings, but some people at Maleeka's school dont understand that.
DeleteYeah i agree, with you too. Like when you said, treat other how you want to be treated. I love that! And yes, you do have to stick up for yourself. And try to just ignore people, and don't listen to their negative comments.
Delete1. I don't really don't like the book. I think that people pick on Maleeka and she's explaining it in soooooo many pages. Especially when that boy tried to kiss her. She took 4 or 5 pages to explain it.
ReplyDelete2. I would change a couple things.
First, I would change her name. Maleeka is a long, hard-to-pronounce name. I would change it to Brooke, because thats my name. Then, I would change her friends, because Char is one mean, nasty, selfish, BAD girl. I would make her friends with a nice, sweet, sensitive, little girl.
3. I,personally, feel as though I would relate to Desda. Desda is just the one they talk about a lot, but she isnt a popular girl.I am the same way...except I am kinda popular.
I really like this book. It makes you think of the other people around you. Maybe you have a good home/invorment, but others may not. And that makes you want to be nicer to them. And that they should be nicer to you, too. And you really don't know what happens at home, like Maleeka's dad died. So if you don't know, you really shouldn't judge them. It's a very good life lesson.
ReplyDeletethats so sweet! :]
DeleteI could somewhat relate to hearing about Maleeka's dad dieing....my dad didnt die though! i was talking about my grandpa and 1 person in my family kind of reacted to his death like Maleeka's momma did....because well.....he was maybe one of the greatest person that you could ever meet!
DeleteTo be honest, this book really brings me into a new world..almost as if the book sucked me right into the pages! Its maybe the greatest literature circle book I've read so far! Hionestly! Okay, lets be honest here. How many of you guys have read maybe just a little bit over than what you were supposed to (1, 2, or even 3 pages) by accident or on purpose because its just such a great book? I know that I have before...ON ACCIDENT THOUGH!
